Our Recommendations for Snowmobile Getaways in the Intermountain Area
2020/21 Winter Season Has Arrived!
With snow piling up in the higher elevations and temperatures dropping in the valleys, excitement is building for Winter recreation enthusiasts. Following a season that was cut short due to precautions taken for Covid-19, a large chunk of the best weeks of the season were eliminated. Since then, skiers, riders, and sportsmen have been counting the days for when they can return to their favorite Winter playgrounds. Recent announcements on ski resorts opening in time for Thanksgiving have the snow sports community giddy with anticipation.
What about non-skiers?
Contrary to popular belief, not everyone who lives in Utah is a skier. So what do non-skiers and riders do to enjoy Utah’s famous powder snow? There’s plenty of things you can do, one of the most popular activities is snowmobiling, which shouldn’t come as any surprise considering the number of ATV/UTV users in Utah. The powersports industry in Utah is huge! Utahans love their horsepower under the hood. We too love this form of recreating in the backcountry. We both are passionate about hiking and snowshoeing and have discovered over the years the many advantages of getting to trailheads via powered machines over spending hours beating ourselves up before we even get to the good stuff. Plus you can cover a lot of ground in a day and it’s much easier to haul camera equipment.
Looking forward to 2o2o/21 Season
As we look back over the years, some of our most memorable experiences have been snowmobiling in the backcountry of West Yellowstone, High Unitas, Logan Canyon, and Markagunt Plateau in Southern Utah. Needless to say, we too are giddy for the 2020/21 season to begin.
Here is a list of suggestions for taking your own machine, renting or taking a guided tour from outfitters we recommend. There are many other places in the Intermountain West, we rank these as some of the best.
