Red Canyon

Located on Highway 12, Utah’s All-American Road

La Fine Ultime:  We had to look it up but, in the French language it means The Ultimate Ending. So, here’s a conclusion to some Facebook posts (post 1) (post 2) about Utah’s Red Canyon in the Dixie National Forest.  Enjoy the melodic music that accompanies the views of these dramatic hoodoo formations on the southern rim of Utah’s Red Canyon. Look closely in the valley below to see visitors passing along Scenic Byway 12 as they travel to and from Utah’s Bryce Canyon National Park.

Red Canyon is a scenic roadside attraction on Byway 12 in Utah’s Dixie National Forest.  This section of the forest has views of hoodoos formations.  These are similar to what you’ll view in nearby Bryce Canyon National Park.

Thunder Mountain Trailhead located at the west entrance of Red Canyon is the starting point for the Thunder Mountain Trail and the paved Canyon Bike trail that parallels Highway 12 to the Bryce Canyon exit and continues to Inspiration Point. The Red Canyon Visitors Center is operated by the Dixie National Forest Service. Stop here for trail maps, restrooms, and other general information about the canyon and region. The canyon offers a number of well-marked hiking and mountain bike trails. The center is closed in the off-season.

Nearby attractions include Casto Canyon, Losee Canyon, the communities of Panguitch, Utah, Hatch Utah, and Bryce Canyon City.
