Green River Utah

Move Over Moab

Green River Utah is quickly transitioning from being a pass-through pit stop to becoming a destination and viable lodging option for visiting the Moab area. At 4,000 feet in elevation and located only 50 miles north of Moab on Interstate-70, Green River is an easy drive to a wide range of attraction including Arches and Canyonlands National Parks and offers less expensive lodging choices.

Base Camp

Green River is centrally located to many scenic attractions and recreation areas that makes it an ideal “base camp” for unpacking, staying a few days and taking day trips. We frequently talk about hub and spoke travel on the KSL Outdoors Show and showcase these areas in our segments. Rather than packing, unpacking, and repacking when taking multi-day trips, we like to nest. We don’t like to travel like we’re on a tour. Arches, Canyonlands, Dead Horse Point, Goblin Valley, and San Rafael Swell are a few of the more popular attractions that are within an hour’s drive.

Places to Eat

There are a number of places to visit and things to do in Green River. We’ll include some of the more popular places and activities on the map below.

There are two eating establishments we highly recommend and frequent personally when visiting Green River.

Ray’s Tavern – This is a very popular spot for folks passing through between Moab and northern Utah, it’s also where the “river rats” go to eat. (River Rat: one who spends his leisure time on or along a river.) Famous for big juicy burgers and meaty fries. 35 S Broadway Street

Tamarisk Restaurant – Located across the road from the John Wesley River History Museum and on the east bank of the Green River. This is where we take our tour groups, which has been consistently good. Our groups love the menu, the view of the river, and give it two thumbs up. The menu offers a diverse selection of sandwiches, salads, burgers, and southwestern fare. 1710 E Main Street
